“Instead of two hours per playground, we only need 30 minutes per inspection now – including the report. With 500 playgrounds, we save 750 hours. That’s sensational.”

Wanted:

Digital solution for playground inspections

“It all started with a camera and a notepad,” says Walter Bolter with a smile. “That was in 2016, when we were overseeing 80 playgrounds and had no digital solution in sight. After each inspection, we went back to the office to create a Word file, add our photos and type up a report. At the time, it took us two hours per playground to conduct the inspection and complete the report.”

The following year, the number of playgrounds Privis needed to check increased to 200, and although they had a program that at least enabled them to automatically insert photos, Privis was already looking for a complete digital solution.

What we developed:

An app for playground equipment inspections

The app that Privis uses today was developed with Opti-Q. Walter Bolter was the technician Privis put in charge of the project. “Together, we developed the design and the application, tested it and got it up and running. We were already familiar with iCL from its B1300 app, which had won us over during testing. However, we decided to start off with the app for playground equipment inspections.”

Control, documentation and documentation compliance are the main criteria in this segment. “With iCL, the process is really simple. I can use my tablet to take photos at the playground, record defects, and process the individual inspection items with stored text modules. It saves us an enormous amount of time. Today, we oversee 500 playgrounds. The first inspections start in March each year and must be completed by the end of May. We manage this really well thanks to the app.”

How iCL is used:

Playground equipment and B1300

“The reports we create with iCL are imported into the system at the office once a week, immediately converted into PDF files and sent to our customers. Working with Opti-Q, we also developed our own program for quality inspections. That one is mainly for tracking defects, and it works great too. The software enables us to complete a visual inspection at the playground in about fifteen minutes. Our customers have been really happy with this aspect.”

The Vorarlberg-based company doesn’t just use the electronic checklist to inspect playground equipment. It has also implemented the B1300 app for property inspections. In addition, it recently tested the app for fire safety inspections. This is another area where Privis is thinking about using iCL in future.

What has changed:

Rapid growth and training

“We’ve had a surge in inquiries thanks to the playground equipment inspections. The B1300 app is having the same effect. Together, they’ve helped us grow so much in recent years that we’re now looking to hire multiple new staff to help us meet the demand. The intelligent checklist is helping us in this respect as well. Conducting inspections with a tablet is so easy, and it doesn’t require any IT knowledge, so training new employees goes much more quickly. Within a week, new inspectors know exactly what to do, whereas we used to spend about a month training them.”

WOW effect:

Support and user experience

“The support we get from Opti-Q has been brilliant. I can send a question to the team in the evening, and I have an answer with a solution ready at my desk by eight o’clock the next morning. We collaborate incredibly well,” says Walter Bolter. He’s thrilled about Opti-Q’s fast and professional support.

The software solution quickly won him over. “What surprised me most about iCL was how easy it is to use. My colleagues and I were impressed that our people could operate it without any IT knowledge.”
